How to impress your Airbnb guests in 2021

First impressions are everything!

They already have a rough idea of what your place is going to look like through the booking images – so their visual sense is impressed. However, there are four more senses which will need to be satisfied in order to make a really (really) good impression. These are the five senses:

Sight

This is the most obvious and important sense and one we already touched on. Guests will already have a pre-conceived judgement of your space from the images you have in your listing. So be sure to make these photos look as accurate as possible to avoid disappointment. Whether it’s a clean modern kitchen or a cosy living room, help remind your guests why they chose your Airbnb to begin with.

Smell

Here is your time to wow your guest’s expectations. Subconsciously our sense of smell is the most powerful and memorable sense of the five senses. Place a plug-in oil diffuser with natural clean aromatherapy scents for example lemon, lavender and peppermint. These will be slowly released throughout the day, leaving the scent ever so slightly lingering when they arrive.

Sound

A little ambient or classical music playing quietly in the background when your guests arrive can make them feel at home instantly. Make a calming playlist on your phone and sync it to your Airbnb’s Bluetooth speaker. Guests can simply turn it off when they want.

If you’re in a natural area, why not leave the window open for the calming sounds of nature to set the mood.

Taste

There’s no better way to welcome your guests – than by putting together your very own welcome basket, just a few small hand-picked surprises can make every guest feel special. When a guest arrives from a flight or long car ride, they probably will be hungry or thirsty. Make sure you have a fresh bowl of fruit on the side and some cool drinks in the fridge.

Touch

It is essential to find tactile way to impress your guest’s sense of touch. A set of throw pillows on the bed can add an extra layer of texture, colour and comfort. Perhaps you can drape a soft, throw blanket on the sofa to make the guests feel welcomed. Whatever you decided to do make sure you pay extra attention to soft details for bare feet – soft rug by the bed or a bathmat when stepping out the bath.
